Ophthalmic Assistant or Technician 

La Jolla LASIK Institute is looking for a full-time ophthalmic technician who is positive, energetic and has excellent communication skills to join our team. Our ideal candidate would be able to multi-task, be positive, energetic and have excellent communication skills. Certification is preferred, but not necessary.  

Responsibilities Include:

• Greets patients, introduces self and guides to appropriate exam area
• Does pre-testing on Auto-refractor, Pentacam, and iCare tonometry
• Takes patient history, visual acuities, checks for ocular dominance
• Answers ophthalmology-related patient calls and triages patients
• Educates patient on pre- and post-operative care
• Calls pharmacies regarding prescriptions/prior authorizations
• Responsible for daily maintenance and stocking of exam lanes (open and close)
• Maintains sterile technique in accordance with OSHA standards
• Maintains patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA guidelines
• Performs additional testing such as Visual Field or IOL calculations as needed
• Ability to refract a plus
• Performs all clerical duties related to the patient and the practice
